Who is this course for? Those students looking to gain 'A' level equivalent subjects to either enter the workplace or progress to university. The programme consists of a number of BTEC National Awards; each is equivalent to 1 'A' level. Students can choose to attend the programme on a full time basis by studying 4 of the Awards over 4 days (The 5th day allows time for additional subjects like Key Skills or GCSE re-sits), or part time by choosing fewer options. Some school 6th forms may release students to study one of the subjects as part of their 'A' Level programme. This allows the flexibility to study a vocational A Level equivalent which they may not otherwise have access to.
Previous knowledge required: Students will normally be required to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at A to C for the full time programme. It is helpful if the GCSEs are in a subject areas related to the chosen National Award. Students studying on a part time basis or in partnership with schools will be required to have a related GCSE at A to C or equivalent. Students wishing to study Performing Arts may also be required to attend an audition / workshop
What will I study? National Awards can be chosen from the following subject areas: Performing Arts (Dance): Performing Arts (Musical Theatre): Art & Design (Fine Art): IT Practitioners: Business Studies: Sport: Media Production (Games Development): Media Production (Interactive Media): Media Production (T.V. and Film): Travel and Tourism: Health and Social Care (Subject to timetable)
What else will I do? Full Time students may also have the option to complete Maths and English GCSE re-sits and a range of Key Skills. There are also a range of recreation or placement activities on offer depending on the route studied.
How will I be assessed? Each National Award is assessed by completing practical projects and assignments to specific deadlines. These will give students the skills and understanding required for university or work. There are no formal examinations at the end of this programme.
What will I achieve? At the end of this 2 year programme students will achieve up to 4 National Awards (4 'A' Levels equivalent). Full time students will also achieve a variety of Key Skills.
What can I do afterwards? Students can progress onto university or the workplace in a variety of different disciplines.
Materials required: Students might need to buy a number of course text books. Other materials will depend on the subjects chosen.
