Course programme
The course will give you the academic knowledge and practical skills you need for a position in the animal care industry or to progress on to higher level courses.You will:
- complete work experience in the land-based industries,
- maintain animal accommodation,
- learn about practical animal feeding,
- maintain animal health and welfare,
- participate in providing estate maintenance, and
- be introduced to animal breeds and grooming.
This course has a balance of academic and practical subjects. Practical work takes place at our purpose-built, extensive animal unit and the grooming salon.
Many students work at kennels, catteries, animal grooming parlours, pet shops, veterinary practices and stables. You may change your placement as your ideas develop. You will also work in the college's own animal unit under supervision.
Entry Requirements
- A minimum of four GCSEs grade D or above, including English language, and maths at grade E or above, or
- a level 1 qualification, at pass or merit grade, Level 1 English, and maths at entry level 3.
