This two year programme is designed for engineers or trainee technicians in the early stages of their careers as well as mature candidates who have some practical experience or who have recently entered the field of electrical/electronic engineering. This qualification comprises of 11 units of study:

Year 1:

4-   Mathematics for Engineers
6-   Electrical & Electronic Principles
35- Principles and applications of Electronic devices and circuits
53- Electronic Measurement & Test

Year 2:
2-   Communication for Engineering Technicians
3-   Engineering Project
28- Further Mathematics for Engineering Techniques
57- Principles and application of analogue electronics
59- Microprocessor systems and applications
64- Further Electrical Principles

An awarding body registration/certification fee is included in the cost of the first year of the course.

Course programme

After successful completion of the National Certificate, many students proceed to the Higher National Certificate (HNC) programme or possibly to an appropriate degree course.

You should hold one of the following: A BTEC Certification or equivalent, or 3 GCSEs at grade B or higher in Mathematics, Grade C or higher in English and a Science. Other qualifications e.g. a City and Guilds Certificate may also be accepted. Mature candidates will be considered on an individual basis and we will take account of your experience and previous qualifications.

You will be assessed by a range of methods including assignments, projects, examinations and practical exercises.
