BTEC Diploma in Sport – Sports Academy (Performance and Excellence Pathway) Level 2

If you have a passion for playing sport, a desire to know and understand more about sports performance, and are considering a career in the sports industry, you may be suitable for a place in the Kirklees College Sports Academy.

You will get an introduction to sports performance, investigate the organisation and development of sport and basic principles of sports science and nutrition.

You will train with top professional coaches for your chosen sport and compete in high quality British Colleges Sport Leagues and cup competitions. You will also have the opportunity to take other related awards, including NGB Coaching Awards, Emergency First Aid at Work and a level 1 Award in Sports Leadership.

You will cover the following units:

• Fitness testing and training,
• Practical sport,
• Injury in sport,
• Planning and leading sports activities,
• Nutrition for sports performance,
• Development of personal fitness,
• Effects of exercise on the body.

Entry Requirements

• A minimum of four GCSEs grade D or above, including English language and maths, and preferably science and PE or a high level of participation in sporting activities, or
• a level 1 qualification at pass or merit grade, including English or maths and at level 1, and
• a good interview and reference.

You will attend a trial for your selected academy sport where you will be expected to display a suitable level of performance.
