About this course
You will need to show passion, enthusiasm, commitment and have a portfolio of work to show at interview. You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, or a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design with merit or distinction grades, and a proven record of attendance and engagement in English and Maths.

Course programme
What will I study on the course?
This course will develop your understanding of a range of areas in 3D such as interior design, architecture, theatre and set design, furniture and product design. You'll explore a range of ideas and learn through practical and critical activities to gain knowledge of the different areas within 3D and Spatial Design, by creating sketchbooks of research, ideas and development. You'll have a choice to explore a range of techniques using a selection of resistant materials. You will work in our new STEM centre using the latest state-of-the-art equipment such as a 3D printing and laser cutting in a hi-tech workshop environment as well as access to traditional workshop equipment. You will be introduced to Computer Aided Design software (CAD) and CNC machining and Rapid Prototyping.
You will study a range of units including:
- Use of sketchbooks to explore, develop and record ideas and processes
- Design methodology
- Manufacturing techniques and processes
- Production craft skills prototyping
- 2D and 3D industry standard computer software
- CAD for 3D printing and laser cutting
- Live projects set by practicing industry professionals
- Working to a commercial brief
- Design drawing both free hand and technical
- Invent and create products to sell, online, within the college market/shop
- Build a professional design portfolio
