Course programme

The science sector continues to suffer from a skills gap and needs to keep up with rapidly developing technologies. The Extended Diploma in Applied Science will, therefore, give you the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to meet the needs of modern science industries. You will learn how to develop skills and knowledge independently of how similar procedures are carried out in industry. You will also develop skills to communicate science to others, both in formal reports and projects as well as in attractive poster and visual displays.

The course covers the full range of physical sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). You will engage in these through both practical hands on ways as well as learning about the theory behind what we know about these sciences.

  • Principles and Applications of Science,
  • Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques,
  • Science Investigation Skills,
  • Laboratory Techniques and their Application,
  • Principles and Applications of Science II,
  • Investigative Project,
  • Contemporary Issues in Science.

Many of the units have strong links to the knowledge requirements of the SEMTA National Occupational Standards so are industrially relevant.
