Course programme

Overview

You will explore a range of art and design subjects to help you decide on the subject area you want to specialise in. The hands on course encourages individuality and you will explore and experiment with materials, techniques and processes through a range of assignments, including drawing, painting, mixed media, 3D design/model making, printmaking, fine art, multimedia textiles, design craft, illustration, and image making.

As you progress through the course you will gain a clearer picture of your strengths and interests.

You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of materials and equipment and explore and develop skills in:

  • drawing and painting,
  • generating and developing fine art ideas and concepts,
  • 3D materials - ceramics, metal, wood and plaster,
  • sculpture,
  • printmaking,
  • image making,
  • illustration,
  • portfolio development,
  • paper making,
  • design craft.

Entry Requirements

  • A minimum of five GCSEs grade A*-C, including English language and an art, design or a craft related subject, and maths at grade D or above, or
  • a level 2 art and design qualification at overall merit grade, English at level 2 and maths at level 1.

You will need a strong portfolio of art and design work which shows your enthusiasm for the subject.
