Many of our learners study for free with a "Fee Waiver" when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18. If you are not entitled to a "Fee Waiver" you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 23 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 you will be able to apply for a 24+ Loan that cover all of your course costs. Higher Education learners are entitled to apply for HE Loans that cover the cost of tuition. In addition, depending on your chosen course of study and individual circumstances, you may be entitled to a maintenance loan. About this course

You will need to show passion, enthusiasm, commitment and have a portfolio of work to show at interview. You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, or a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design with merit or distinction grades, and a proven record of attendance and engagement in English and Maths.

Course programme

What will I study on the course?

The UK is a world leader in design and exports both ideas and talent across the world. This course is a grounding in creative problem-solving, design skills, with hands on prototyping and production. You will learn design theory and build practice approaches to developing inactive new products or solutions and will have the opportunity to invent and create products to sell, online, and within the college shop. You will learn about the manufacturing processes working with various organisations and will take part in visits to various venues and industries to build your professional skills and influence your personal approach to product design. You will also develop skills and confidence in presenting your work, preparing you for university or work interviews. You will study a range of units including: - Use of sketchbooks to explore, develop and record ideas and processes - Ideas generation and creative thinking skills - Design methodology - Manufacturing techniques and processes - Production craft skills prototyping - Design history and contextual studies - Live projects set by practicing industry professionals - Working to a commercial brief
