About this course

An average of Grade D for 3 or more GCSEs, including English or you will have successfully completed a level 1 programme. You may also be asked to demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview. If you dont have the required entry qualifications there will be an opportunity for you to demonstrate your abilities to undertake the course.

Description of the Course
The BTEC First Certificate / Diploma is designed to encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualities you need for work, learning and to help you to achieve your full potential. This is a practical 'hands on' programme with each one taught in the context of real jobs and careers in a chosen vocational sector. This gives you the chance to explore the opportunites offered in the sector, and to acquire appropriate vocational skills.
Course content
You will study Nine Units from the following: Three Core Units

· Communication and Rights
· Supporting Health, Safety and Wellbeing
· Understanding Cultural Diversity (assessed via an Integrated Vocational Assignment or IVA)

Three from Specialist Units

· Investigating Vocational experience
· Understanding Body Systems
· Life Span Development
· Therapeutic and Creative Activites
· Health and Social Care Services
· Influences on Health

You will also have the opportunity to develop your communication, numeracy and IT skills and to undertake work experience placements with such groups as elderly people, young children or those with learning difficulties and disabilities. It may also be possible to take GCSE in Maths or English to improve your grade.

Coursework assignments, practical projects.
Who is the course for?
A course for school leavers who would like to learn more about the skills and knowledge required for a career in health, social care or child care.
