BTEC First Diploma
Introduction
The BTEC Level Two, First Diploma is a one year course offering you the chance to develop your skills in creative art and design. Studio based subjects include drawing, painting, photography, fashion, textiles, 3D crafts, graphic design, printmaking and contextual studies in art and design.
You will also have the chance to develop your English and Maths skills, either through GCSE or Key Skill routes.
Course Content
All students take the four core units:

• 2D and 3D Visual Communication
• Contextual References in Art and Design
• Explore and Develop Art and Design Ideas
• Produce an Art and Design Outcome
  

You will work in the following specialist areas:

• Working with 3D Design Crafts Briefs
• Working with Fashion Design Briefs
  

Entry Requirements
Students who enter this programme will normally be 16 or older. You will need to show through experience and at interview that you are enthusiastic and keen to learn new skills.
You will generally have achieved GCSE at grade D/E with one or two at grade C or Level 1 qualifications at Merit or Distinction.

• BTEC First Diploma (worth 4 GCSE)

You will also undertake further qualifications in Maths and English, and Learning Guidance sessions.
Duration
Three days per week
Assessment
All units are assessed, and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

With further training or study, students go into careers including:

• Btec National Diploma in Art and Design (2 yr full time course)

• Fabric / Textile Design
• Freelance Photography
• Interior Design

£30 studio/material costs. Payable at the beginning of the course.
