Music Technology
Qualification: BTEC First Diploma EDEXCEL

Duration: 1 year
If you have a talent for using technology to create and enhance music but have been held back because your qualifications are short of what you need for an advanced course then this is for you. The course is made up of five units one mandatory core unit: Production Project (double value) that everyone takes and four specialist units.
The specialist units enable you to study a particular area in more depth. They include The Music Business, Understanding Music, Performing Music, Composing, Recording, Sequencing and DJ Technology. There are no exams; all assessment is based on the quality of work that you produce. Students can use this qualification to progress to BTEC National Level in Performing Arts or as a stepping stone to employment in the music industry.

Qualification explained
BTECs are practical, work-related courses. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career. The BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to get a job straight away or go into Higher Education first. A BTEC National Award is equivalent to one A Level so it can be combined with other subjects. A BTEC First Diploma introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification. A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* to C and is normally taken at college as a full-time course.
