Music Technology - BTEC First Diploma
What will I study?
The BTEC First Diploma course is designed to provide students with the introductory knowledge that they will need to work in the music industry. The programme is based around music technology and makes extensive use of computers for music production. Students do not need to be able to play an instrument. It teaches students how to use modern technology to arrange and compose music. It improves skills in recording and computer secquencing. Many students enrol on this course to enable them to launch their own music onto the market place. If a student is talented this course will give them the means to be noticed.

How can I progress?
A BTEC First Diploma prepares students for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as a more specialist BTEC National programme relating to: *Music Technology.

What will I need to qualify for this course?
Students will normally need to have at least one of the following: *A Standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade D-G, *Related work experience (mature applicants), *A BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject, *Other related level 1 or 2 qualifications.

Course Structure
The course is made up of six units - two core units and four specialist units. The specialist units enable students to study particular areas in more depth, including one individually chosen area of research. In order to gain a full BTEC First Diploma in Music these units will be studied; All Students take the two core units: *Planning and creating a music product *Exploring the music profession. Students take four specialist units: *Exploring Computer Systems Used by Musicians, *Exploring Musical Composition, *Producing a Musical Recording, *Exploring an Area of Music.
