The BTEC First Diploma in Public Services is a practical, work-related
course that gives you the opportunity to explore the key themes and skills required for a career in the Public, Armed or Emergency Services.
It aims to provide a broad programme of study, which is directly related to the changing needs of employers in specific areas of the Public, Armed or Emergency Services. The qualification is made up of six units. You will study three core units and three specialist
units.
The core units are:
· The Public Services
· Public Service skills
· Public Service fitness.
The three specialist units are selected by the College from the following:
· Outdoor activities and the Public Services
· Sport and recreation
· Land navigation with map and compass
· Crime and its effects
· Expedition skills.
You will be given the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications
alongside your main course. These will include qualifications in Functional Skills and can also include more specialist awards that are relevant to the subject you are studying.
How will I be assessed?
This qualification is assessed by coursework, which includes projects, assignments, presentations, and practical activities. The awarding body sets the coursework for one of the units, whilst tutors set the coursework for the others.

On successful completion you may:
Progress to a Level 3, BTEC National Diploma in Public Services or another Level 3 course in a related subject such as outdoor activities.

Achieving this qualification will give you the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C.
