Extra Curricular Activities
All students can add to their main programme of study by taking part in a wide range of clubs, groups, societies and courses. Not only are the activities fun, they also develop skills and provide new and fulfilling experiences, as well as enhancing applications to Higher Education and employment.
All students must be willing to participate in all Sport, Recreation and Leisure activities involved in the course.

What is the course about?
This is a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
The BTEC First Diploma in Sport consists of six units:Core Units
·Unit 1: The Sports Industry
·Unit 2: Health, Safety and Injury
·Unit 3: Preparation for Sport

Specialist Units
·Unit 4: The Body in Sport
·Unit 6: Psychology for Sport performers.
·Unit 8: Fitness for sport.Stanmore Sixth Form College reserves the right to select appropriate specialist units depending on available College resources. Unit selections and programme presentation subject to change.
Students will require an overall Merit Profile to progress to Advanced Level study.

This course is only available to students who have been successful in the Wealdstone Football Club Trials.
This is only available to male footballers at present as there is no recognised women's league.

Additional Studies
Students will take Key Skills Level 2 communications which must be passed to progress to BNDIC. Along side your academic course you will have the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications which will form part of your course.

Study Skills
As part of Stanmore Sixth Form College's excellent support network, Literacy and Numeracy support is available to any student enrolled on a course, depending on the student's individual needs (determined during Induction by an assessment). Support is provided through the Skills for Life Study Plus Programme. Students can attend either one-to-one or group sessions in a friendly, stimulating and supportive environment.

Research Skills
Students will be entered for a Level 2 qualification in ICT as a means of improving their computing and presentation skills.

How will you be assessed?
All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. The Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A*-C.
