ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
You need to have gained a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by at least 4 GCSEs, 2 at Grade C and 2 at Grade D.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The BTEC First Diploma for IT Practitioners seven-unit qualification. The course is made up of three compulsory core units that are common across all titles and common core units also taken by all students. It also consists of specialist units, which allows students a choice between either software development or system support. It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go into a more advanced work-related qualification.
UNIT STRUCTURE
The programme is being revised for the 2010 & 2011 delivery and details of the units of study are still being confirmed. The core units, to be studied by all learners, are set currently to be:
1. Working in the IT Industry
2. Communicating in the IT Industry
3. Computer Systems
PREPARING FOR WORK
Provision will be made within the program to allow for work experience for all learners. This placement will be arranged by the learners and will not have to be within an IT environment specifically.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
This unit is offered in conjunction with 2 core Key Skills. These qualifications aim to develop skills valued by employers.
HOW IS IT STUDIED?
This qualification is based around academic and practical tasks, and will involve significant hands on experience in the college's well equipped hardware and networking labs.
HOW IS IT ASSESSED?
