QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

You will create a garment for the Fashion Show.
LENGTH OF COURSE
Two hours per week for one year.
INTRODUCTION
This course is specifically designed for students wishing to create a garment/s for the Gateway Fashion Show. This event is great fun. However, it is also the opportunity to gain a qualification which will particularly support students who wish to progress to a higher level of study in Fashion/Textiles.
The course is most suitable for students who are studying Art & Design. However, it may be that students who have interest and skill in fashion and creating garments may wish to study this as an enrichment activity.
CONTENT
You will study two Units from:
Developing Fashion Ideas
Developing Fashion Visualisation & Presentation Techniques.
This is art based. You will be expected to research and explore ideas and themes. You will create mood boards, research sketchbooks, fashion illustrations, decoration techniques, final garments through the use of commercial patterns.
The first Unit will focus on creating ideas to a theme proposed by the teacher but chosen by the learning group for a runway collection at Gateway Fashion show in December. Group work will be essential to create a fantastic collection which unites the work of the group.
The second Unit will focus on evaluating the success of the runway show, and develop presentation techniques for the Fashion Show Industry. Students will be encouraged to develop further ideas with regard to their learning. Emphasis will be based upon the influence of Fashion Industry predictions.
ASSESSMENT & METHODS OF STUDY
The college provides well-equipped modern studios that enable the students to enjoy an exciting and supportive atmosphere that values hard work.
Assessment is based upon practical achievement through research of fashion designers, fashion prediction magazines, working towards a fashion design brief, and the development of skills, techniques and ideas. You will be expected to produce two detailed and informative sketchbooks.
The fashion show will be recorded and you will be expected to evaluate your findings.
Pass, Merit and Distinction are the grading criteria awarded to this course.
