Overview of the course:

The course is taught with an exciting mix of classroom based activities, trips and guest speakers. We'll teach you to manage the day-to-day challenges of setting up and running a business such as business planning and pitching, financial planning and implementation and future business growth and performance analysis.
You will have the opportunity to run your very own micro business for a 4 month period, some of the assignments on the course are based around your own business, which will help you gain the skills and experience for managing a business. As well as running your business you will have a substantial work placement which is tailored to your specific interests that have been covered on the course, where you will be given a project to manage and will develop your employability skills. All units are assessed through assignment work and are graded pass, merit and distinction.

Examples of the units covered include:

The Innovative Entrepreneur - How entrepreneurs create new ideas and turn those ideas into a business. You will carry out a variety of ideas generation sessions to help develop your own idea which you will turn into a real life micro business. You will run your very own business for a period of 4 month.

Business Planning and Pitching - You will develop a professionally presented business plan for your own real life micro business.

Financial Planning & Implementation - You will gain skills and knowledge to prepare and use simple budgets and accounts for your very own micro business.

Financial planning and implementation – Students will gain skills and knowledge to prepare and use simple business budgets and accounts, and to explore sources of funding based on their very own microbusiness.
