Do you have an adaptive and inquisitive mind? This course is suitable for people with a passion for Science, and its role in the Criminal Justice System. The use of scientific evidence in court runs through all the subjects.
You should be methodical, meticulous with detail and be ready to accept new challenges.
This course is your first step towards working within the field of Science, or Criminology and one which provides you with the basic skills and knowledge required to further your study at university.
As well as learning new methods of working you will find that your communication skills will improve, as this is an important skill for any Forensic Scientist. You will also learn how to assemble and process data while being articulate about your findings.
About this course
While employment may be found within the field of forensic science direct from college, the recommended progression route would be university to enhance your knowledge and skills.
Science based courses at The College are taught in classrooms and specially adapted laboratories. You will also have extensive use of The College's Learning Resource Centres including Moodle (College course resources). The course also uses a specialist crime scene venue where real crimes are mocked up for the student to investigate.
You will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English, maths and double Science grades 9-4 (formerly A*-C). Alternatively successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification and have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skill in English and maths.

The National Diploma is an 13 unit course, made up of 7 core units and 7 specialist units and is equivalent to 3 A Levels.
