Is it for me?
Yes if you would like to prepare for a career in health related professions including nursing, occupational therapy, speech therapy, midwifery etc.

This course is full time for 2 years.

What do I need?
Five GCSEs grade A-C, preferably including English and preferably maths and sciences, or equivalent, for example a First Diploma in Caring at Distinction level. You require Five GCSE grades A-C including English and prefereable maths and science ora First Diploma in Health and Social Care at Distinction grade and level 2 National Literacy test.

Please note that acceptance on to some courses may be subject to a satisfactory police clearance. Further guidance will be given by the course team at interview or induction.
Ideal if you want to go into nursing or other health related professions.
A criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to studying on this course, a number of factors will be taken in to consideration. However it may affect where you can undertake your work experience.

What will I study?
Core units cover anatomy and physiology, equality and diversity, life span development, applied science and research and Health and Safety. Additional units offer breadth across the health sciences including public health, psychology and professional development. Work experience in a variety of settings is an essential component of the course ( minimum of 100 hours over a 2 year period). All students will undertake functional skills qualifications. You can also achieve a National Certificate by studying selected units.

Where will I study?
Baltic Campus
You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.
How will I be assessed?
Continuous assessment is through a variety of methods including presentations, case studies, projects and work-based assignments.
How will I be taught?
Course activities are generally delivered in a recognised base facility with specialist resources including ILT facilities and include group and paired work, case studies, discussion and debate and independent study.
What qualification will I get?
BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Studies) over 2 years.
Can I go on to further study?
You could go on to a degree eg: social work and nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy and other health related professions. If you want to mix study with employment you could study on the college's Foundation Degree in Health.
What are the career opportunities?
You may be able to apply for jobs within the health and social care profession.
