BTEC NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN ART & DESIGN A Full-Time 1 Year Route With progression to Foundation Diploma
The course is highly practical offering the opportunity to develop an excellent portfolio of work, demonstrating your skills in fine art, 3D, textiles and graphics.
How Will I Learn? You will study a range of course subjects relevant to art and design, including visual studies, drawing, 3D design and sculpture, photography, printmaking, computer aided design and contextual studies. You will also be introduced to specialist subjects such as fine art, graphics, 3D design and fashion and textiles. Eventually you will select one of these areas as your main study.

What Do I Need To Study This Subject? You will need to have 4 GCSE passes at Grade C or above (or BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design) or their equivalent. A portfolio of your creative work will be required for interview purposes. We also accept applications from mature students aged 21 and above, who can demonstrate ability through a portfolio of work.
What Will I Gain At The End Of The Programme? A nationally recognised qualification, the BTEC National Certificate in Art & Design, followed in year two by progression onto the BTEC EDEXCEL Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design. Additionally you will develop an excellent folder of work, which will equip you for entry to Degree, or HND Courses and pave the way for a future career as a professional Artist or Designer.
What Will I Gain Afterwards? The opportunity to progress to Degree courses in Art & Design at University. Blackburn College has an exceptionally high success rate and an enviable reputation for its pre-degree courses. Alternatively you may wish to consider applying for employment in an art-related field.
