About this course

You will need a BTEC First Diploma with a merit profile in a relevant subject, or five GCSEs at grade C or above. A school reference and interview is required.

Who is this course for?
This course is designed for young people over 16 years of age who are interested in a career in public services, e.g. Ambulance, Fire and Rescue, Police, Prison and Probation Services, as well as the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Royal Air Force.

What will I learn?
You will be responsible for your own learning in a way that helps develop initiative, responsibility, independence and other personal qualities. You will enjoy a broad range of activities within the course including a residential trip to an activity centre, visits and guest speakers.The First Certificate is made up of a number of units that are likely to include: Government Policies and the Public Services, Understanding Discipline, International Perspectives & the Planning & Management of Major Incidents.Additionally you will study Key Skills: Application of Number; Communication and Information Technology.

Assessment
You will be assessed continuously throughout the course by a variety of methods including projects, assignments, practicals and course work. The certificate is equivalent to 2 'A' Levels.

On Completion Achievement / Progression
Learners may wish to extend their programme of learning to complete the BTEC National Diploma in Public Services, without duplication of content or learners may wish to enter employment or progress on to higher education.
