Content This course covers all aspects of Beauty Therapy with a strong emphasis on science. Theory and practical units include anatomy and physiology, dermatology, physical science and nutrition, manual and mechanical facial and body treatments, body massage, make-up, waxing, nail techniques, manicure and pedicure, aromatherapy, epilation and business studies. Key Skills will form part of your final qualifications. Assessment Continual assessment through practical assessments in salons, written tests, assignments, portfolio of evidence and oral questions. Progression
This course will prepare you for Higher Education or employment in beauty salons, hotel and health farms/spas, department stores and cruise liners.

Additional Information
This course has an emphasis on the theoretical aspects of beauty therapy and students will be expected to carry out lots of research for assignments.

Salon Dress Code
When working in the salons, due to hygiene and health and safety reasons, it is essential that you follow the following professional salon dress code:
  • Long hair must be tied back with none dangling.
  • A discreet amount of make-up must be worn for client sessions
  • Jewellery must be restricted to: up to 2 pairs of stud earrings worn in the lobe only, a discreet gold or silver chain, a flat wedding band, a fob watch
  • All facial piercings, including tongue studs, must be removed. Watches, bracelets and rings can scratch the client.
  • Visible tattoos must be covered by either a plaster or remedial camouflage make-up
  • A clean, pressed white salon tunic must be worn with white or flesh coloured underwear.
  • Plain black trousers - no turn-ups, pinstripes, combats, jeans, cropped, skinny leg, velvet, corduroy or brushed cotton/ black denim
  • Black enclosed shoes e.g. low-heeled court shoes, loafers, nurses shoes, 'mary-janes' etc. No trainers, fabric, open-toes, sling-backs sandals, mules, clogs, stilettos, platforms etc.
  • Nails must be clean, short and polish free.
Salon Rules
  • Mobile phones must be switched off.
  • There is no eating or drinking in classrooms.
  • Students must arrive punctually for lessons.
  • Students must phone in to report any absences as soon as possible so we can organise client sessions effectively.
Additional costs
  • White salon tunic (purchased through college supplier approx cost £30) and black salon trousers, black shoes, long, black cardigan etc.

Work Experience Students gain experience in the beauty salons on campus and at local salons.
