Introduction 2 years full-time
The course is drawn from the Art & Design subject group and emphasises the development of creative and technical skills required for work in the digital media industries. Students will engage in website design, stills imaging, 2D and 3D animation, games design and other multimedia productions.
The course will involve exploration of historical and contemporary art and design and will encourage students to seek inspiration from a wide range of sources. The aim is for students to become active and reflective in the development of their own ideas. They will be encouraged to express themselves and to research, analyse and present their own stimulus material.

Course Units The course will develop the following skills:

· Capturing visual and audio material first hand: drawing from observation, digital photography, video and audio recording
· Planning, design and production techniques: originating and developing visual and narrative ideas, storyboarding, planning shots, visual layouts and soundtracks
· Contemporary digital techniques: 2D image manipulation skills, 3D modelling and animation skills, programming, web design and interactive media interface design

Assessment Students will be graded on their ideas development, their awareness of digital design practice, and their planning, development and completion of multimedia products. They will be given some room to explore their own areas of interest in a number of extended projects as the course progresses. This will include a Final Major Project in year two.

Further Opportunities On completion of the course students will have developed a number of skills which will be attractive to employers in all areas involving computer-based creative and communication work. The course will be acceptable to many Higher Education institutions, having the equivalence of an Art & Design Foundation course. Students have progressed tp a range of multimedia/interactive media production courses in game design, animation, graphics, transport design and other digital art and design courses.
