The first year of a two year full time course consisting of 17 units covering a number of related disciplines including: Science, Mathematics, Electrical/Electronics, Industry and Society. Engineering applications or computers all related to motor vehicle engineering technology.
The course is designed to provide a progression route to supervisory management or university where many successful graduates go on to work for Formula One race teams.
AdditionalityThe course consists of 8 units, all of which have to be passed to complete the qualification. These 8 units are based on Vehicle Technology but will include 2 units of 'Mathematics for Technicians' and 'Science for Technicians'. Each unit will be completed successfully by passing tests and assignments. Units will be achieved in a natural progression throughout the year and will include some practical work.

ProgressionThe BTEC National Diploma which is a recognised Level 3 qualification and is accepted by universities as the equivalent of 3 A levels should students wish to go on to do a degree. The UCAS points achieved are dependent on grades achieved at the end of the course.
