:WHAT WILL THE INTERVIEW INVOLVE?

At the interview there will be a group warm up, some contact work, learn a short dance and monologues previously learnt prior to the audition. We are looking to see that you can work with other people, you can think on your feet and that you have tried to learn your lines.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
The BTEC National Diploma is for creative and energetic students who require a good qualification in dance and drama. Students will need to be passionate about the area and be willing to try new ideas, explore and experiment.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Students learn to work together. You will gain a greater understanding of the performing arts sector and the background to the performance work you see. Students will increase their skills (dance, drama, physical theatre and basic singing) and learn to make creative and innovate theatre. The second year will allow you to follow your passion and interest in increasingly student directed work.

HOW WILL I LEARN?
Students will take dance classes in our dance studio. You will have drama workshops, see performances, visit theatres and meet actors/dancers/directors etc. Practical and theoretical work is integrated throughout the course and the theoretical work will help challenge and expand your idea of what theatre can be.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
A BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to three A levels. Students gaining a National Diploma in Performing Arts will have access to a range of career and Higher Education opportunities. Progression from this course could be to Higher Education (University) courses in Performing Arts/Dance/Drama/ Theatre, training colleges in the performing arts or careers in the sector (creative, production or administration). The skills learned on the course are essential for any employment and are especially relevant for work which involves managing people, a high profile and/or effective communication.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Audition: Students will be asked to audition by taking part in a workshop. The workshop is an important exercise to ensure that candidates are willing to participate and can work with other people. Before the audition you will be sent a choice of monologues. You must learn the lines to perform in the audition.

What do I need to buy? - You will be required to visit the theatre several times during the 2 years (with discounted tickets) and have appropriate dance/workshop clothing. This is simply t-shirts and leggings/track suit bottoms.

What qualifications will I get?

In addition to the Diploma, Key Skills in Communication (level 2/3) and an IT qualification. You may also choose to take additional qualifications such as GSCE Maths or English.
