Introduction 2 years full-time
The course is designed for those with a strong interest in and commitment to photography. Throughout the course students will work on a variety of specialist units, covering areas such as:

· Darkroom Practice
· Location Techniques
· Experimental Imagery
· Studio Techniques

Visits to local and national galleries form part of the curriculum. Live projects and strong links with the colleges own Art Gallery at Stratford Leisure Centre enhance students' learning experience.
There is also an opportunity to re-sit Mathematics GCSE (for those who have achieved a grade D at GCSE).
Resources:
The College has black and white darkroom facilities and essential equipment. Colour films need to be processed and printed at students' expense. Students are encouraged to buy their own camera equipment wherever possible, although the College does have cameras available for student loan. Students will be expected to purchase their own film and mounting board etc. during the course of the two-year programme. A materials and equipment list is available on request.

Course Units The course is made up of 5 core units plus specialist units including:

· Visual Recording in Art & Design
· Contextual Influences in Art & Design
· Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art & Design
· Ideas and Concepts
· Visual Communication

Assessment Throughout the programme students will complete a range of projects and assignments for which grades will be given. An overall grade is awarded at the end of the course following external assessment of a Final Major Project.

Further Opportunities On successful completion of the course you will be qualified to enter Higher Education to study a degree or HND or gain employment within the photographic industries.

Entry Requirements
You will normally need at least one of the following:

· BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design or BTEC First Diploma in Media with overall merit profile, plus English Language GCSE at grade C or above
· At least 4 GCSEs at Grade C including English Language

Mature students may be able to join the course without formal qualifications on the submission of a portfolio of artwork. Previous technical knowledge of photography is not essential.
