About this course
In order to qualify for this course students need; *At least 4 GCSE's at grade C or above, including Double Award Science (CC) and Maths and English (one at least grade C, the other at least grade D). *Or a BTEC 1st Diploma in Applied Science at merit or distinction level.

What will I study?
This course is a nationally recognised level 3 qualification in Applied Science, particularly Medical Science. It provides the knowledge, understanding and skills to progress to employment as a science/ research technician in the laboratory medical science service.
How can I progress?
The course can be used as a progression route for continued education onto courses at higher levels at university. These include Higher National Diplomas and Degree courses such as, Biotechnical Science, Microbiology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy (at selected universities) and many others.

Course Structure
This course comprises 19 units, 10 in the first year and 9 in the second: Year 1: *Fundamentals of Science, *Scientific Practical Techniques, *Perceptions of Science, *Application of Numbers for Science Technicians, *Mthematics for Science Technicians, *Physiology of Human Body Systems, *Physiology of Human Regulation and Reproduction, *Biochemical Techniques, *Microbiological Techniques, *Chemistry for Biology Technicians. Year 2: *Working in the Science Industry, *Scientific Investigation, *Genetics and Genetic Engineering, *Practical Chemical analysis, *Medical Physics Techniques, *Biomedical Science Techniques, *Chemical Laboratory Techniques, *Physiological Investigations, *Medical Instrumentation. Assessment is all via portfolio work.
