This course provides an opportunity to study a broad range of sports related topics on a full time basis. This course involves practical and work-related aspects and provides the knowledge and experience required to pursue a career in the sports industry including where possible coaching and instructing qualifications. It is particularly suited to those interested in coaching, teaching or instructing physical activity.
Our Football Studies pathway is taught with a specific focus on how the concepts of sport relate to football and involves both practical and written assignments.

  • Other unit choices may be substituted on the Football Studies Course. The Football Studies course will also include FA Coaching Qualifications.

    What else do I need to know?
    You need and interest in at least two sports and be willing to participate in a range of practical activities. It is useful but not essential to be involved in sport at college. Students must be prepared to develop a sense of responsibility towards the learning process and have the ability to manage their time. The course is assignment based with a variety of assessment activities including presentations, discussions, observations and video analysis.
    Students will have the opportunities to access basic coaching awards and First Aid.
    The BTEC National Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) is a full-time course and a Pass is equivalent to three passes at A Level and offers direct route into universities. The qualification is recognised by the leisure industry and will aid employment in this sector.
    The college has links with universities, local employers and has supported several students in gaining access to sports scholarships in the USA.
    This course will often be chose by members of the "Academy of Sport". Our Academy enables students to develop their performance and qualifications to an appropriate level. Please pick up a leaflet and an application form.
