This course is intended to give students a thorough understanding of the construction, maintenance, repair and set-up of competition vehicles. During this two year course of study eighteen units will need to be completed, which will include: Applications of Vehicle Science and Mathematics. Engine Technology. Vehicle Fault Diagnosis and Rectification. Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Principles. Vehicle Engine Management Systems. Motorsport Workshop Practices. Motorsport Vehicle Preparation and Inspection. Professional Practice and Logistics for Motorsports. Engineering Design. Computer Aided Draughting. Properties and Application of Engineering Materials. Petrol Injection Systems for Spark Ignition Engines. Vehicle Technology Project. Light Vehicle Suspension, Steering and Braking Systems. There will also be a requirement to fulfil Key/Functional skills in ICT, Numeracy and Communications.

Progression / Leads to
Successful completion will enable opportunities for employment in a number of motorsport or related automotive engineering careers as a technician or technician apprentice. The qualification will also allow you to progress to Higher Education, e.g. HNC/D, Foundation Degree or Degrees in Motorsport or Automotive Engineering.
