Short Description: This course is suitable for the keen gardener or those working in the horticulture industry (garden centres, landscapers), wishing to increase their knowledge of plants and how to grow and use them successfully.

Where will it take me? This is a Level 5 course and could lead to further study e.g. the HNC in Garden Design, or can help you, as a professional landscaper or garden centre employee, to learn more about plants. It could also be of great interest to the amataeur gardener if you simply want to deepen your plant knowledge. This is a stand-alone course.

What's it all about? This is a course for the keen gardener who wants to know more about plants â€" how they are classified, how Latin names work, how to select the right plants for the right place and how to grow them successfully. There will be a practical element to the course and visits to other gardens. The course is taught in the Newtownards campus which has a small garden run on organic principles.

How will this course make me more employable? This course will be helpful to individuals working in garden centres or as landscapers to improve their knowledge of plants and how to grow and use them successfully.

How will I be assessed? The course is assessed by written assignments.
