Course programme
If you would like to pursue a career in the emergency services, armed forces or government services, such as the police force, HM Prison Service or British Army, then this is the course for you.
The course will prepare you with the knowledge and physical requirements of the public services.
You will cover units that accumulate 60 credits over 1 year and achieve the equivalent of 1 A-level at grade A*-E. Units include:
- Government, policies and the public services,
- Leadership and teamwork in the public services,
- Citizenship, diversity and the public services,
- Command and control in the uniformed public services,
- Volunteering in public services,
- Land navigation by map and compass.
The course will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills you need for working in the public services at operative or officer level. You’ll learn to deal with challenging circumstances. The course combines practical activities with personal research and written work.
You will visit emergency service premises and receive presentations from visiting speakers, to give you an insight into a number of public services.
Entry Requirements
- A minimum of five GCSEs grade A*-C, including English language, and maths at grade D or above, or
- a level 2 qualification at overall merit grade, English at level 2 and maths at level 1.
You will have an interview to make sure the course is right for you. You must be of good character and have a good reference and attendance record.
