Building Services Engineering BTEC National Certificate Level 3

About the course:
The BTEC National Certificate in Building Services Engineering introduces learners to the subject knowledge required for the whole range of technical and professional occupations within building services engineering. It is intended for individuals who seek a direct route in to employment in building services engineering or as a progression route to Level 4 qualifications such as the BTEC Higher National Certificate. The two year course is run on a day release basis and the qualification is suitable for, 16-19 year old learners employed in both building services design consultancies, mechanical and electrical contractors and most government service biased employees because it provides ideal, broad based learning, giving a very good underpinning knowledge of the industry. The course is also suitable for adult learners and offers a specialist work related qualification to confirm and extend their work experience if they are entering or have been employed in the sector. It also provides a suitable qualification for those wishing to change career or move in to a particular area of employment following a career break.

Course Content:
The course covers:
  • Heating services
  • Ventilation
  • Air conditioning
  • Electrical installation
  • Refrigeration and operation
  • Service and maintenance

It also covers preliminary design aspects for each service, as well as other practical aspects, such as the science of building services, environmental issues, installation methods and health and safety.

Additional Information:
Attendance - day release (part time). The course includes an external assessment (IVA) in the second year. This course is also suitable for the Modern apprenticeship scheme. If you are on a qualifying means tested benefit the tuition fees for some courses may be reduced. However, you will still need to pay Exam and College costs. You must claim tuition fee remission by providing evidence before enrolment.
