Course programme

Year 1

There are three pathways available so you can specialise in construction and the built environment, building services engineering or civil engineering. Sixteen modules are required to complete the HND.
Design and management principles
Energy utilisation and efficiency
Civil engineering construction
Measuring, tendering and estimating
Site surveying procedures
Science and materials
Health, safety and welfare

Year 2

Within the second year you will complete your practical assessments and also focus on completing your competencies within your NVQ portfolio. This will be your responsibility to complete your job knowledge questions and also ensure that you cover the range of work required for your assessor to observe you in your working environment.

Additional information

Learning takes place through a variety of theory. Students will also need to carry out personal research to enable them to successfully complete the course and guidance on this will be given by the course tutors. Your skills and knowledge will be continuously assessed throughout the course; additionally each unit will be assessed marked submitted assignments. Support will be provided through regular meetings with your course tutor.
