About this course

This one-year course will give you the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of management.
You’ll have the chance to develop your administrative skills alongside your understanding of organisational change.
As you progress, we’ll encourage you to develop an area of special interest and expertise by choosing particular modules.
The course has been developed in close association with employers and professional bodies.
We also work closely with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and you’ll have the opportunity to achieve a CMI qualification in Management and Leadership through no additional study or assessment.

Previous graduates from this subject area have gone on to roles such as Digital Marketing & Media Assistant, Front Line Manager, HR Recruiter, Customer Service Associate, Account Executive and Operations Manager in organisations including Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Morrisons, ASSIST Sheffield, HSBS, Softcat Limited, Deltec International Courier Ltd and Hoardtek.

Entry requirements for this course are normally one of the following:
Higher National Diploma or equivalent (eg two year advanced diploma level or comparable qualifications).
Foundation degree or 120 ECTS.

If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent will be considered acceptable.

Cross Cultural Studies

This module considers the influence that national culture has on behaviour and the implications of this for organisational design and management. The impact that working across national cultures is considered and how the cross cultural manager can be supported in a changing environment. A blend of theory and practice engages the learner in a range of organisational and cultural settings.

Leadership: Process and Organisations in Context

This module examines the challenges faced by those involved in leading and renewing organisations in today’s increasingly complex and dynamic national and global operating environments.

Strategy in Context

This module will help allow you demonstrate a broad and rigorous understanding of the frameworks and models associated with strategic management, understand the strategic directions that can be chosen by organisations through the application of relevant theoretical concepts, assess the importance of strategic management processes and define the process of strategy implementation and its links to strategic change.

E-Commerce

E-commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services over an electronic network, primarily the Internet. For many organisations e-commerce has become an essential aspect of their business allowing them to provide value and services that are different from their offline counterparts. In order to understand the e-commerce environment this module will develop your understanding of online business, the importance of developing business and revenue models, the rise of electronic commerce in the knowledge economy and the changing face of marketing to support your business awareness.

Digital And Social Media Marketing

Digital Marketing is a term which encapsulates the targeted, measurable and interactive marketing of products and services through the use of the internet. This module will investigate and explore a variety of digital and social media marketing tools and their implementation within a practical context. In addition this module will help develop your understanding of online consumer behaviour, organisational marketing strategy and online decision making through the use of Web analytics. You will also cover the practical aspects of online brand development and have the opportunity to gain an understanding of integrated marketing campaigns, search engine optimisation (SEO) and social media.

People Resourcing

People Resourcing covers a wide range of people management issues from pre-employment (corporate and HR strategic planning, recruitment and selection), initial and continuing employment (socialisation, performance management), to release from employment (redundancy, retirement, exit interviews). The module will focus on the strategic elements of people resourcing and the contribution that these activities can make to organisational success and achieving a high performance workforce in a rapidly changing environment.

The Psychology of Work & Organisations

This module will introduce you to psychological concepts and then you'll have the opportunity to learn, understand and appraise the application of psychological principles and theories to workplaces and organisations. This module will include a critical overview and discussion of personnel psychology, namely, theories of personality and psychometric testing and assessment centres. Furthermore, the module will help you to develop a critical appreciation of human behaviour in the workplace including the nature of employee behaviour, the extent to which the work environment contributes to the physical and emotional wellbeing of employees, group functioning, motivation and performance. Knowledge acquired from this module will provide a foundation for learners to pursue further study at postgraduate level in organisational behaviour, through enabling them to develop a comprehensive understanding of businesses from a psychological perspective.
