Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for you if you possess basic knowledge and understanding of administrative practice. Candidates must be 19+ at enrolment.

What are the entry requirements?
You have a NVQ Level 1 in Business and Administration or equivalent, GCSE at Grade 'D' or above. Candidates will also be considered if they have worked in an office environment and wish acquire a qualification to support their practical experience. You will be assessed on your English at interview.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Level 1

  • Reading: You can read and understand the main points and ideas in different types of writing - for example magazine articles, newspaper stories or short stories. You can understand main ideas from a report, read from a website or college text book, etc. You can use what you have read to help you write an essay or make decisions. Writing: You can present information in different ways. You can use grammar, spelling and punctuation correctly. You can present your thoughts and ideas in a clear way that people can understand.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

  • You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.


What qualification will I receive?
You will receive an NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Business and Administration.

Where can it lead?
It is a recognised vocational qualification and will improve your prospects for employment.

What will I study?
Subjects you will study may include Dealing with Visitors, Equipment Handling and Document Production. Candidates must complete 5 units. Two are mandatory and the remaining 3 can be selected from 20 alternative options. A basic taster for each unit is delivered in the first term during which time candidates can decide on what they would like to specialise in. All units are assessed in the work place where you will produce evidence for your portfolio.

How will I be taught?
You will attend one day a week in college. Study will take the form of lessons covering theory and practice as well as one to one tutorials with an allocated assessor. Two days will be spent in the work place throughout the duration of the course.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in the workplace for practical application and in the college for theory and knowledge.

What support is available while I am on the course?
Candidates are supported by their Assessor throughout the course. The college's extensive learning resources are available to all learners. The Employability Team will work with the student to find suitable work-placements.
