About this course

Maths and English GCSEs at grade 4/C or an equivalent qualification are ideally required. In order to be selected for this apprenticeship, you will also need excellent communication skills and an ability to work with many different professionals in a typical business environment. IT literacy is important to use software in the workplace. Course programme

Year 1

The level 3 apprenticeship programme will require you to develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in a commercial environment and achieve a series of standards to prove your competence. This is portfolio-based and assessed in the workplace. This is delivered via e-learning and classroom delivery with support from your Assessor. You may also be offered additional support to complete functional skills if you haven’t achieved a level 1 or 2 qualification in both maths and English. Examples of standards include IT skills development, decision-making skills, financial awareness, planning and organising, understanding legislation, project management, communication skills and team working. In order to gain all the learning outcomes, the programme will be 12 to 18 months.

Year 2

In the second year you will continue to develop skills, knowledge and behaviours in: communication in a business environment, manage personal performance and development, develop working relationships with colleagues, principles of providing administrative services, principles of business document production and information management and understand employer organisations. You will also prepare for you final End Point Assessment, this will comprise of: a knowledge test (onscreen multiple choice assessment) – 20%, an Interview – 40% and a presentation (based on a project or process improvement) – 40%.

Additional information

Assessment for this apprenticeship is largely via a portfolio of evidence gathered at work. You will also be regularly visited at work by your trainer assessor from Leicester College, who will support you to achieve the standard required. Towards the end of your course, you will undertake an End Point Assessment process that includes a portfolio showcase, a knowledge test and a professional discussion based on your development conducted by an independent assessor.
