Business Apprenticeships at City College Plymouth are a great starting point if you want to get into the workplace straight away and develop a broad business knowledge by completing a qualification at the same time. You will also start to earn a wage or training allowance while combining work and study. The Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration is equivalent to five GCSE passes. This Apprenticeship will teach you how administrators are an essential part of every business. No matter what the company offers, admin is always required to ensure maximum productivity. This is where you come in! As an apprentice, you will learn business and operational needs and become a crucial part of a team where you will learn the office dynamics. You will carry out a variety of duties and learn new skills to allow you to grow through the business. Whether you are at the forefront dealing with the customers or behind the scenes ensuring everything is in place – admin is the place to start your career! On completion of the Apprenticeship you will gain a suite of vocational qualifications which form part of the Intermediate Apprenticeship framework. The Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration is ideal for you if you have already completed an intermediate Apprenticeship. It gives you an opportunity to demonstrate your progression and prove your ‘can-do’ attitude and your thirst for success. Entry requirements

All apprentices must complete initial assessments which cover maths, English and ICT. These are to ensure that you meet the requirements of the course and to demonstrate your ability to complete the qualification. It will also help the College identify any areas of support you may need.You will be required to complete a vocational – a paper based assignment where you will answer a variety of admin and customer service related questions and demonstrate how you would react in certain situations.

What you'll learn

You will complete five mandatory units – which are standard modules regardless of the business in which you work, which will include workbooks/ self-study regarding the principles and understanding of business:

  • Communication in a business environment.
  • Manage personal and professional development.
  • Principles of business communication and information.
  • Principles of administration.
  • Principles of business.

In addition to these, you will choose units from a wide selection to fit around the job role you undertake, ensuring that you cover all of the criteria, whilst making sure you get the most from your training.Functional skills – maths, English and ICT are studied (at level 1 on the intermediate Apprenticeship and level 2 on the advanced Apprenticeship), along with employment rights and responsibilities, and (PLTS) Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.The course will also help develop independent enquiry, creative thinking, reflective thinking, team working, self-management and effective participation.
