About this course

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above. You will also need a reference indicating that you can demonstrate at least 90% attendance. You do not have to come with a business idea as we will support you in coming up with one within the first term. This course is suitable for those who are ready and able to take on a programme equivalent to two A levels in one year.

Course programme

Year 1

The course begins with team building and leadership activities such as a trip to the Outdoor Pursuits Centre and an Innovation Challenge where you will start to think creatively about business ideas. You will also meet three entrepreneurs who will share different aspects of their businesses. You will develop your business idea, write a business plan and present your idea to mentors and investors. The remainder of the course focuses on operating and monitoring the performance of your business and you will have the chance to work as an intrapreneur within a business as part of your two-week work placement. You will also have first hand experience of buying and selling through completing one week pop-up trading event. You will benefit from business engagement, enterprise themed activities, inspirational guest talks, masterclasses and competitions.

Additional information

There are a variety of assessment methods used such as live projects, report writing, business plans, creating displays/pop-up shops and PowerPoint presentations.
