Business Studies AS Level
The commercial and business world plays a fundamental role in modern society. Business Studies provides an understanding into the strategic world of business.
What does the course involve?
Currently, all the AS students take part in the Young Enterprise scheme for one of the five hours each week. This involves taking part in a company with other students to try and make as much profit as possible. The programme culminates in a Trade Exhibition at the Cheltenham Race Course in February. There will be exams in March and May for the Young Enterprise course.
The remaining four hours each week will be allocated for AS Business Studies.
What will I study?
The first element of the course is planning and financing a business. Students will learn about how to start a business and financial planning.
The second element covers managing a business. Students will cover a variety of topics including finance, people in business, operations management, marketing and the competitive environment.
The final section of the AS covers the outside world and business strategy. Is Tesco too powerful? How would YOU start up your own great business idea?
The examinations at the end of the course will be: Unit 1 - a written paper for 1 hour (60 marks) and Unit 2 - a written paper for 1 hour 30 minutes (80 marks).

Does it matter if I haven't done GCSE Business Studies?
No, many of our high performing candidates had not studied it before. It is assumed that you have no prior business knowledge and you will be guided step-by-step through the course.
