Who’s this course for? The BA (Hons.) Sport and Physical Education programme is aimed at enabling students to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding of the fields of sport and physical education whilst at the same time developing the personal attributes of self-motivation and drive to enable students to gain entry to satisfying and stimulating career paths. Modular structure Sport and Physical Education (SPE) offers you a firm and broad foundation in theoretical areas such as psychology, pedagogy, physiology, sociology and research methods in your first year of study. At the end of year 1 you can choose to select either a BA or BSc degree qualification route, enabling you to further your interests in either social science or biological science disciplines for years 2 and 3 of the course. You will engage in analysis of contemporary issues influencing the education, sport and health fields through lectures and examine the potential impact of policy and theory development on sport and physical education.

Skills and experience gained From very early in the course, you will be working in collaboration with others and issues of responsibility, trust, and flexibility will be addressed as central to your academic and professional development. You will also be given the opportunity to develop personal approaches to study, building on strengths and eliminating weaknesses, and developing ability to transfer learning from one context to another. After the course Many students will also complete postgraduate qualifications to further enhance their employability or to pursue a particular career such as teaching in FE or HE. Further Study Options In terms of further study, a number of possibilities exist, both within the University and beyond, such as PGCE Secondary Physical Education, MA in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy or an MA in Education.
