Why study this course Please note, the first year of this course (level 0) will be taught at our Luton campus with levels 1, 2 and 3 being taught in Bedford. In the Foundation year you will study three days per week. The focus will be on academic writing skills and numeracy, plus subject-specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree. This dynamic course has a scientific/academic basis, while you gain the necessary qualifications and practical skills to be a successful coach and/or instructor. Who’s this course for? If sports coaching is your passion, this is the course for you. Effective coaching is complex and demanding, and requires high levels of knowledge and skill. Studying sports science and coaching at the University of Bedfordshire will give you the opportunity to specialise in the academic study of sports coaching. Modular structure The BSc (Hons) Sport Science and Coaching Course is oriented towards the study of sport coaching from a sport science perspective. The course aims to address; human responses and adaptations to sport and exercise; the performance of sport and exercise and its enhancement, monitoring and analysis; historical, social, political, economic and cultural diffusion, distribution and impact of sport policy, planning, management and delivery of sporting opportunities; physiological, historical, philosophical, psychological and sociological dimensions of sport; the sport and exercise experience, its concepts, functions and meanings; key issues and trends in sport. Through a focus on understanding both coaching and participation / performance in sport through the distinct disciplines of Coaching (inc. philosophy and sociology).

Skills and experience gained The BSc (Hons) Sport Science and Coaching course combines theory and practice together with the necessary skills required in the workplace. It will involve industry-related scenarios and the chance to collect data in real life settings. In this way, you will develop and apply the skills of critical evaluation to eventually become a self-directed, independent learner. You will need to have a passion for physical activity, the commitment to study sport in an academically-challenging way and have the desire to develop intellectually as you progress through the course.
