Who’s this course for? This is a broad-based, sports-orientated degree that enables you to pursue the vocational route that is most appropriate to you. During this course you will focus to a large extent on the social sciences, with an emphasis on sports sociology, social sports psychology, qualitative research and sport management. Modular structure You will be required to undertake a variety of group and individual based assessments. The assessments are designed to assess knowledge and understanding but also to demonstrate the range of transferable skills. A great majority of the units include elements of individual and group work as this reflects the type of work undertaken in the sports industry. Assessments are based around tasks which develop vocational skills, underpinned by subject knowledge, requiring higher levels of critical thinking in the upper levels of the course. You will also have the unique opportunity to study abroad. We have international partner links (with top universities in USA, Spain, France and Germany) that will enable you to study in different cultural environments. Employability is at the heart of the BA Sport Studies course partner managers have commented on the high standard of employability skills that our Sports Studies students demonstrate.

Skills and experience gained Upon successful completion of this BA (Hons) Sports Studies course, you should be able to:- In the study of the performance of sport and its enhancement, monitoring and analysis: Monitor, analyse, diagnose and prescribe action to enhance the learning and performance of the component elements of sport, Evidence the skills required to monitor and evaluate sports performance in laboratories and/or field settings, Display a critical appreciation of the integration of the variables involved in the delivery (teaching, instructing and coaching) of enhanced sport performance. In the study of human responses to sport and exercise, Make effective use of knowledge and understanding of the disciplines underpinning human structure and function, Appraise and evaluate the effects of sport and exercise intervention on the participant. Provide a critical appreciation of the relationship between sport and exercise activity and intervention in a variety of participant groups. This will include special populations such as the elderly, disabled and children.
