Course programme
Modular structure Areas of study you may cover on this course include: Introduction to football, the football business, football and the media, developing coaching study and skills, sport education, Sport development, leisure and sport management and Sociology of sport. Course delivery will use a combination of lectures and seminars, field trips, practicals and case studies with the emphasis in seminars being on discussion and debate providing you with an opportunity to relate theoretical content to real-life practical situations. Practical seminar activities will be used where appropriate (for example video material, case studies, role play) and you will be encouraged to work individually and in groups to develop a thorough appreciation of the many issues and debates examined. There will be opportunities for you to experience on-site operations related to the management of events as well industry-specific visiting speakers to underpin the vocational accent of the course.

Skills and experience gained The programme is intended to provide you with an academic grounding in football from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, organised into three main themes. Football administration, and management, Football Development andFootball and society. Specifically the course aims are to prepare you to: Critically debate major theoretical and practical issues relevant to the study of football, have a clear understanding of the structure and governance of football, and its role and importance within contemporary society, understand the underlying anatomical, physiological, psychological and sociological principles of football performance, understand the theory underlying the management and administration of football. It aims to prepare you to understand the social and psychological principles underlying football spectatorship, express yourself fluently both in written and verbal form to a level which will enhance employment prospects and general personal performance, and initiate and plan academic research projects in football by exploiting the knowledge and competence base acquired during the programme.
