Why study this course In the Foundation year you will study three days per week. The focus will be on academic writing skills and numeracy, plus subject-specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree. This course is BPS accredited and focuses on the study of human behaviour from a health psychology perspective, focusing on applications and implications of research that investigates questions such as what predisposes us to illness and how drugs affect behaviour. It covers issues such as health promotion, disease prevention, eating disorders, substance abuse, pain, stress management, doctor-patient communication, coronary heart disease and cancer. Skills and experience gained The curriculum is largely dictated by the requirements of the British Psychological Society with the overall ethos of the award to provide you with an appreciation and recognition of the discipline of Health Psychology through the study of the main BPS topic areas in Psychology of, social psychology, cognitive psychology, individual differences, problem solving and reasoning, developmental psychology, and biological psychology. You will also be introduced to the study of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology of Mental Health, Counselling and Coaching Psychology and Applied Health Psychology. Emphasis is additionally placed on the acquisition of core skills and personalized learner development, and the fostering of a wide range of research skills and methods relevant to Psychology and Health Psychology.
