Entry requirements: All applicants will be interviewed and cover an initial assessment in an industry related task. The required literacy and numeracy skills are Entry 3 or working towards a level 1. Learners under 19 years of age will need to complete functional skills or GCSE depending on qualifications already achieved.

Overview of the course:

This qualification is intended to provide an understanding of the sector and the vocational skills and knowledge required for Level 1. Beauty skills will be developed during real work activities in a salon environment. It will also provide an awareness of the range of jobs and work settings in the sector and will enable candidates to make informed decisions about careers in the sector.

Fourteen units must be completed to pass the course. Presenting a professional image, Themed face painting, Photographic Make-up, Health and Safety, Basic pedicure, Create an image using colour, Working with others, Skin care, Introduction to the hair & beauty sector, Basic make-up, Nail art application, Basic manicure, Create a hair & beauty image, Reception.

Candidates who successfully achieve this qualification could progress to Level 2 NVQ Beauty.
