About this course
Entry requirements: All applicants will be interviewed and cover an initial assessment in a hairdressing related task. The required literacy and numeracy skills are Entry level 3 or working towards a level 1 qualification. Learners under 19 years of age will need to complete functional skills or GCSE depending on qualifications already achieved.

Course programme
Overview of the course:
This qualification is intended to provide an understanding of the basic hairdressing vocational skills and knowledge required to work in the hairdressing industry. Hairdressing skills will be developed through working on mannequin heads and clients throughout the styling, colouring, cutting and perming skills schemes. It will also provide an awareness of the range of jobs and work settings and enable candidates to make informed decisions about careers in the sector.

Thirteen units must be completed to pass the course. Shampoo and conditioning. Create an image using colour for the hair & beauty sector. Introduction to the hair & beauty sector. Presenting a professional image in a salon. Styling women's hair. Styling men's hair. Plaiting and twisting hair. Create a hair & beauty image. Follow health and safety in the salon. Salon reception duties. Working with others in the hair & beauty sector. The art of dressing hair. The art of colouring hair.
Additional information
Candidates who successfully achieve this qualification could progress to Level 2 Hairdressing.
