Course programme


Overview of the course:

You will cover a mixture of theory and practical topics and get hands-on experience working in the Houghall animal unit. The unit houses a variety of animals from rabbits and guinea pigs, exotics, small 'furries', cats, dogs and ferrets. You will also have opportunity to learn new skills working on the farm at Houghall with a variety of different breeds of sheep, pigs and cows. Throughout the year you will cover a mixture of theory and practical activities and will collect evidence to demonstrate the skills that you are gaining. This work will then be used to build a portfolio of evidence for the course. The course will also give you an opportunity to learn valuable employability skills.


Topics:

Topics covered in the course include: maths & English, work experience and safe working practices, assisting with animal feeding and accommodation, farm livestock, animal exercise, and small animal husbandry.
