Course programme
Overview of the course:
You will cover a mixture of theory and practical activities and will work to collect evidence throughout the year of the skills that you are gaining. This work will then be used to build a portfolio of evidence for the course. The Houghall estate provides the ideal environment for you to gain practical skills and knowledge and also gives you the opportunity to develop essential employability skills. You will also get the opportunity to work on external sites for separate companies gaining vital experience.

Topics covered in the course: Maths & English, Health and safety and safe working practices, Work experience, habitat management, planting, cross cutting and stacking, aerial and ground level arboricultural skills, tree identification, wooden management, soil science and pests and diseases.
Additional information
Following successful completion of the course, progression options include the level 3 diploma in arboriculture, or qualifications in Horticulture or Environmental Conservation. Apprenticeship routes are also available at Level 2 & 3 in forestry and arboriculture.
