Is it for me?
If you are already be qualified in hairdressing and want to improve your barbering skills, this course could be for you. If you are not fully qualified you are encouraged to apply if you are working in the industry or on work placement.
What do I need?
To enrol on NVQ Level 2 Barbering you must :

• have an initial assesment in numeracy, literacy and ICT level 1 or above
• be qualified to NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing
• be working in the hairdressing or barbering industry
• be on a work placement in the industry.

You will be asked to attend an interview before being accepted onto the course.
What will I study?
You will study:

• Health and safety;
• Organisational promotion;
• Client consultation;
• Cut hair and shape using basic techniques;
• Shampoo and condition hair and scalp;
• Cut hair using barbering techniques;
• Reception duties;
• Promoting additional products and services;
• Developing and maintaining effectiveness at work. You will also need to provide some equipment.

Where will I Study?
Baltic Campus
You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.
How will I be assessed?
We will carry out continual observation of your practical work and Gola tests for theory. These tests are based on all units carried out in practical and theory sessions.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught a variety of cutting techniques through demonstrations aimed at gent's hairstyling. The first part of the lesson is a practical session where you will be expected to bring in models for practise, followed by theory, using our web portal Moodle. Gola tests will follow when students are competent and have a good knowledge of each unit.
What qualification will I get?
City & Guilds NVQ Barbering Level 2
Can I go on to further study?
You can progress to Level 3 hairdressing
What are the career opportunities?
This course can be useful to those who are looking to become a salon owner, and you can also become involved in photographic work so you can enter competitions.
