Good relationships between children and the practitioners who care for them are essential for effective childcare provision. Building positive relationships is vital and, as one of the four primary themes outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, it’s not something that should be overlooked. By the end of this course, students will understand the importance of positive relationships, and the need for a key person in the learning environment, who the child (and his or her parents) can trust. Understand the Role of a Key Person Once the course is completed, students will understand the role of the key person, and the relationship that they need to build between themselves and a child’s parents or primary caregivers. Having a solid relationship between the two is essential if you wish to provide the child with well-rounded personal, social and emotional development. Appointing a Key Person is a legal requirement of the EYFS framework document, and if you’re hoping to take on the job role in the future, you need to be prepared for the responsibilities that come with it. Create Confidence Feeling accepted and cared for is a great foundation on which a child can build positive relationships, confidence and independence, and it is these building blocks that will help them to thrive within your setting. Confidence and happiness are core elements of a child’s development, and this feeling of acceptance will remain with them well into their future.
